WHY A FIXED INSTALLATION?
Rainman earned his reputation by inventing and marketing portable watermakers. However, over the years many of our customers prefer to install their systems permanently or semi-permanently on their boat. There are many reasons for this:
You don't have to take the system out on the deck every time you use it.
No hoses are pulled over the side of your boat while the system is in use.
Less worry about hoses moving out of place while in use.
Easier to use while on the go.
Both shelled and naked systems can be installed and connected in various configurations. Below are schematics of four possibilities. The basic components of the installation are:
· Seawater intake.
· A bucket to wash or hibernate the watermaker. (Opting for our self-cleaning accessory option means you rarely, if ever, need the bucket.)
· Produced water flow control output (to test or fill your tank).
· Pass hulls to evacuate residual salt water.
MOUNTING WITH BRACKETS
Often one of the challenges with a water treatment plant is the physical installation of the system. Rainman has developed a mounting system made of fiberglass reinforced nylon to make this process as easy as possible. Simply screw the bases together with self-tapping screws and the Rainman systems snap into place.
INSTALLATION KIT
The Rainman Housingless Watermaker includes an installation kit that is designed to meet most of your installation requirements. Obviously every boat is different so there will be some parts you may need to source yourself. Some of these parts may include a marine filter, an extra 3/4″ hose, and related accessories.
If you plan to fully install your Rainman system with enclosure, the installation kit can be purchased as an option.
CONTROL PANEL
The optional control panel provides the ability to remotely manage your installed Rainman watermaker. It is a functional complement that will improve the control and management of the water treatment plant.
It is an ASA injection molded acrylic panel that stays true to the Rainman image of elegant simplicity and handling.
Integration with the Rainman automatic cleaning system activates the flush cycle after turning off the watermaker.
The built-in tri-color LED salinity sensor indicates when the water is good to direct into your freshwater reservoir.
It can be installed recessed, or on the surface with the box included.
Simple installation with no high pressure fittings or high voltage wiring.
Backwards compatible if you already have a Rainman Electric Watermaker installed with or without a case.
SELF-CLEANING KIT
Your Rainman watermaker is a very sturdy piece of equipment, but taking care of a few things will prolong its life. Regularly flushing your Rainman with fresh water will maximize the life of your watermaker's membranes.
The optional automatic cleaning system incorporates a programmable timer that will clean your Rainman watermaker after each use and every seven days thereafter. It incorporates a protection system in case your boat runs out of power during or between cleaning cycles.
While maintaining your Rainman watermaker is a snap, there are a few things that need to be taken care of to ensure a long life for your system.
When storing the system:
Flush the system with fresh water when storing it for more than a couple of days. This may sound complex, but it's an easy five-minute process that doesn't require any specialized knowledge. Alternatively, install the automatic cleanup system to avoid the need to perform this task manually.
Every 50 hours of use:
Change the water pre-filter, depending on how dirty the water source is.
Between 1 and 2 years:
Replace lift pump impeller after one to two years, depending on usage.
Change the high pressure pump oil every 300 hours of use, using SAE-30 weight oil.
Between 5 and 10 years:
Change reverse osmosis membranes after 5 to 10 years.
If your system begins to lose performance, you may eventually need to replace the standard pump seals.
Your new Rainman system will arrive with enough parts and consumables to keep it going for a long time, so most customers don't need to order more parts with the initial purchase. There are a variety of parts that you will need over time to keep your system running for years to come.
